1) The company has always been involved in electric vehicles: how has the market changed over the years?
The Italian electric vehicle market differs greatly depending on the application: as regards the trolleybus, we have witnessed an increase in demand for innovative vehicles capable of guaranteeing low consumption and high performance. Particular attention is also given to the systems of energy recovery. With regard to the tram sector, we have noticed that transport companies are focusing on the choice of vehicles using above all the criterion of the lowest price offered, with a view to immediate savings which, however, is not a long-term investment.
2) Kiepe is also a leader in components. How have electric drives and thrusters evolved?
There Vossloh Kiepe technology is always evolving: our solutions are pioneers on the market and a guarantee of reliability. Our gaze is currently focused on ecological solutions, at the forefront of technology and attractive to transport companies. The evolution of our drives is therefore aimed at combining hybrid technology and design, respect for the environment and high levels of reliability, passenger comfort and low consumption for sustainable mobility in our cities.
3) What "aesthetic" characteristics does the H2 Phileas hybrid bus have?
The Phileas represents a new generation of vehicles: it is silent, safe, flexible, has a high transport capacity and a futuristic design. The Phileas has the characteristics of a modern tram on rubber: an attractive and modern front and rear part, easily customizable, the fully computerized guide, meeting safety standards higher than those envisaged for trams, and is equipped with very advanced technological devices. on a technical level. Its transport capacity is 200 passengers for a 26-meter vehicle, the floor is completely lowered to the same height as the stop platforms and there is the possibility of opening on both sides of the vehicle, the vehicle body is extremely light and robust, thanks to the use of panels developed with aeronautical technologies. Thus there is also the possibility of leaving one's "virtual track" without any problem in the event of an accident or road works.
4) And from a more technical point of view?
For the motorization of the vehicle there are several possibilities: parallel hybrid with diesel engine, trolley with the possible addition of an auxiliary heat engine for non-electrified sections of the line, hybrid fuel cells that allow the accumulation and reuse of energy with the help of batteries and supercapacitors for a 100% ecological vehicle. Tires and suspension are independent, the noise level is low and the vibrations are almost absent. Thanks to the characteristics of the system (very small turning radius <12.5 meters, limited width of the lane when cornering <4.4 meters, minimum dynamic movement of the vehicle, extremely high slope that can be overcome at full load> 14%) The existing road network is also quick and easy, the brakes are powerful and reliable for a deceleration of 7 m / s² (emergency braking), there are electric brakes with energy recovery and electronic brake control for all wheels.
In general, the maintenance costs for the infrastructure and the vehicle are low.
5) How does the braking energy recovery system work?
The storage system uses so-called supercapacitors that store the electricity generated during the braking phase quickly and with maximum "on-board" efficiency. This energy is recovered and used again for the next acceleration, Il Supercap (super capacitor) it has a capacity of 600 W / h in 6 modules, 150 kW for 15 sec, and allows a reduction of energy requirements up to 30% both in electric and autonomous operation with diesel engine (Euro 5).
6) What target is it aimed at?
Transport companies oriented towards green and modern vehicles. In Italy, we have supplied vehicles with supercapacitors to ATM Milano and TEP Parma.
