“To get out of the crisis it will not be enough to go back to producing more, it will be necessary to produce better. A new eco-sustainable production system is our challenge and our condition of survival ”. Paolo Bellavite, owner of the homonymous publishing house of Missaglia (LC), A.G.BELLAVITE (http://www.bellavite.it/), speaks of challenge and survival.
Choose to be Green and Zero Emission it implies a cost, “but for our readers our brand GreenPrinting® it is an added value. Certainly times are difficult for everyone, so being eco-sustainable is not enough, we also need to offer competitive prices ”.
1) What kind of environmental choices have you made?
Since 2008 our company has adopted the philosophy GreenPrinting®, aimed at protecting the environment for authentic sustainable development, using materials (plates, paper, inks and packaging) with low environmental impact as well as investment in alternative energy production systems and methane vehicles.
2) Why this decision?
The choice made in 2008 responds to both internal and external reasons for the company. A.G Bellavite has always maintained its identity as a company rooted in the territory, attentive to the needs of the community. An ecological company policy was therefore written in the company's DNA. Added to this was a reason coming from outside: the world economic crisis. In Italy and abroad, company policies and investments in the ecology sector have increasingly become a fundamental instrument of competition. To get out of the crisis it will not be enough to go back to producing more, it will be necessary to produce better. A new eco-sustainable production system is our challenge and our condition of survival.
3) When did you get FSC certification? What's it about?
We have obtained Chain of Custody Certification according to the standard of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) in July 2008. It is an international association that includes among its members industries of primary processing, transformation and marketing of wood and its derivatives, as well as environmental and social groups that collaborate to improve the management of forests around the world. We can therefore guarantee the consumer products made with papers from certified forests because they are correctly managed from an environmental, social and economic point of view.
4) Have you made sustainable choices also for the energy that feeds you?
Exactly, we have equipped ourselves with a photovoltaic system, installed on the roof of our company. Our choice in the energy field led us to embrace the message conveyed by LifeGate Energy. LifeGate has created the concept of renewable energy with Zero Impact®: the CO2 emissions inherent in the supply of electricity (construction of production plants, sales activities, administration and customer assistance) are offset by contributing to the creation and protection of growing forests in Italy and abroad.
5) And since October 2010 are you also Zero Emission? What does it mean and how did you get there?
Since 2010 we are one ZeroEmissionCompany®: the brand certifies and guarantees that the company has implemented a series of compensatory measures, such as to totally eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions produced directly or indirectly for its production activities. Our products can therefore carry the brand of ZeroEmissionProduct®: it is an extra value that we give to our prints.
6) What benefits have you had as a company from this type of green choices?
Obviously, these choices involved an initial investment, which is gradually offset by energy and material savings. Our customers and our readers consider our brand GreenPrinting® an added value. Certainly times are difficult for everyone, so it is not enough to be eco-sustainable, we must also offer competitive prices. It is certain, however, that at the same cost, our offer is a winner precisely because of its characteristics of respect for the environment.
7) The future?
We have several ongoing challenges, from the digital world (ebook) to the definition of a new project that will help us to further enhance our nature as a company in and for the territory, but for now we do not tell anything yet ...
