The sun finally shines again after the bad winter days and although April still reserves a few rainy days (as the proverb recalls, April cries as much as laughs), the warm season brings back scents and smells, a desire for fresh and colorful food. So let's go to spring recipes! After the March shopping, here are some useful tips to help you spending of April has seasonal fruit and vegetables and the right products to indulge yourself in the kitchen.
Seasonal vegetables from April
During the beginning of spring we see the bright colors of the fruits born in the sun appear, but on the supermarket counters we can still see winter vegetables: together with broccoli and cauliflower, savoy cabbage and black cabbage, the qualities expand and diversify. It is time to taste asparagus and artichokes, perfect for purifying and draining. Did you know that according to some studies, asparagus contributes to fight eczema? Sautéed, seasoned with pasta or steamed, both asparagus and artichokes are an excellent ingredient for the daily diet thanks to their low calorie content and help to purify the liver, which often shows signs of fatigue after winter meals.
Rich in water are the aubergines, which you can enjoy cooked on the grill and flavored with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, garlic and a sprinkling of parsley. When shopping for the season in April, don't forget to buy leek: a fun substitute for onion and excellent for its diuretic properties, it can be used for sautéing or as an ingredient in the preparation of pasta and omelettes. Broad beans, radishes and peas in salads and spinach, rich in vitamins A, C, E, B2 and B6, magnesium, manganese, calcium and iron, will give you the energy charge to face the activities of the summer that returns and together with agretti, fresh lettuce and chicory (perfect for purifying the intestines and kidneys) will make up the menu for quick, healthy and tasty lunches.
Seasonal fruit of the month of April
It is impossible to imagine spring without the intoxicating taste of strawberries: rich in water and minerals, they promote the production of collagen and fight cellulite and fat. Excellent in fruit salads, you can experiment with strawberries together with bananas, kiwis and a lemon, to be squeezed into fruit salads and excellent for purifying the skin. Kiwis are incredible reserve of vitamins (A, C and E): thanks to their high fiber content, laxatives are an aid to the diet and to regain the transparent splendor of the epidermis.
The seasonal meal with the March groceries
Why not start the meal with a 'fresh salad? After washing and cutting the necessary, you can dress with a drizzle of oil and vinegar (or lemon juice) lettuce, pieces of green apple, spinach sprouts, radishes and shrimps. To vary the usual spaghetti, experiment with pasta with kamut, brown rice and spelled: you can season them with pan-seared leeks and agretti flavored with your favorite cheese cut into cubes or strips, to accompany a plate of sautéed artichokes.
