FENG SHUI: The Art of Furnishing

The Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese Taoist art exploited, among other things, for to furnish the house in a harmonious way. It is often compared to Western architecture even if Feng Shui has a rather atypical structure, it follows specific rules of astrology and the psyche. The words "Feng" and "Shui" mean "Wind" is "water"The two main elements that determine the environment in which we live. Wind and water can be equated with the most common imagery of Yin and Yang. The yin, feminine, in Feng Shui is represented by water while it yang, masculine, it is given by the wind.

There are several schools of thought about the Feng Shui and its origins. Among the most accredited theories is the one that supports the origins of Feng Shui in an astrological matrix and in particular in the Ki of the 9 stars, a horoscope that consists of 9 numbers associated with five elements (fire, earth, metal, water, wood). Each element is associated with a geographical direction, for example, fire is associated with the south and indicates brightness, creativity and inspiration, in opposite -just like Yin and Yang-, water is associated with the north and concerns the introspective capacity, the interiority and rest.

According to theArt of Feng Shui there would be more propitious directions for the various activities in the house and also the shape and colors of the accessories could have a big influence on daily life since they are characteristics closely associated with the 5 elements of the 9 stars of Ki. For example, according to the principles of Feng Shui a house should necessarily have a square or rectangular shape and the East side should be protected by very tall plants that symbolize a green dragon and lower plants to the west which can be interpreted as one White Tiger. To the north it would be good to have a hill or a large boulder, it would represent the turtle, while to the south the red phoenix it can be symbolized by a stone wrapped in a red thread. The Turtle should protect an individual's career and ambitions just as the Green Dragon should ensure harmony and rest.
Precisely for the principle of "Yin Yang" is "Wind water“, The Feng Shui provides an optimal position also for rest: the North represents relaxation so the head should be exposed in this direction with the feet facing south.

As for colors, they too have a big influence, here is a brief overview: Blue is the color of Water, therefore of the North and has a positive effect on career. The Viola has a strong influence on the bonds of friendship, if a room facing west is decorated in yellow, it will stimulate creativity and this could be a perfect place for children.

L'Art of Furnishing in practical terms. In Feng Shui a north facing room could be ideal for meditation. In the South it would be perfect to set up a creative laboratory, perhaps painted yellow for children, while in the North-West and West, directions connected to metal, it would be good to set up an office because this direction is extremely favorable for financial activities and organizational, better if furnished in green that evokes knowledge and illumination. Without a shadow of a doubt a dining room should be built in a South-West or North-East direction, both governed by the Earth element which according to astrology would concern nutrition and health, since lunch is a moment of social sharing, better if the decor is Blue, the color of the North-East which is characterized by family and affections. The element of wood is in the east or south-west direction and it concerns travel, commercial activities but also innovations such as technology and information technology.
